A captivating head-to-head contest between two in-form Canadian record holders will highlight Saturday’s St Patrick’s Day 5K presented by BMO, the 2018 BC 5K Championship and the fourth race in the BC Super Series.
Kent and Pidhoresky Prevail in Windy Conditions to Win BC 8K Championship
Participants had to battle gale force winds along the banks of the Fraser River on Sunday morning, at the Steveston Icebreaker 8K. The out and back course ran into the teeth of the wind for the first 4K, before runners were rewarded with an equally strong tailwind for the return. Thankfully the rain largely held off for the second race in the 2018 BC Super Series, which also served as the BC 8K Championship, and the first race in the Lifestages Lower Mainland Road Race Series.
Sarah Inglis and Geoff Martinson win the Under Armour Eastside 10K
Geoff Martinson cruised to a comfortable victory in 30:00 at this morning’s Under Armour Eastside 10k in Vancouver. Falkirk, Scotland’s Sarah Inglis claimed a surprise win in 33:45 in a thrilling women’s race. A sold-out record crowd of 2,800 runners toured historic Gastown and the streets of Eastside Vancouver under sunny skies and perfect 13 degrees Celsius weather. …more at canadarunningseries.com
Kangogo & Tessier take tactical wins at 2017 Scotia Half
Lethbridge’s Kip Kangogo (65:35) and Toronto’s Lyndsay Tessier (77:00) raced to emphatic victories in the 19th edition of the Scotiabank Vancouver Half marathon, presented by Asics, ahead of 4,229 participants this morning. On a brilliant Sunday morning, nearly 200 runners gathered in front of Kerrisdale Arena for one of the more challenging runs on the B.C. road race circuit. Record Number of Participants as Kimugul and Murage win 40th BMO April Fool’s Run
The 2017 BMO Sunshine Coast April Fool’s Run presented by Coast Cable was the largest in the event’s long-running history. Icebreaker attracts a fast, cool crowd in sunny Steveston
Christian Gravel of Vancouver won the race in an impressive 26:09, edging Coquitlam’s Brendan Wong to the finish line by five seconds. Jeremiah Ziak of Vancouver (26:23) and North Van’s Jeff Symonds (26:55) were third and fourth, respectively. The top woman was Sabrina Wilkie of Vancouver in 28:46. Runner-up Jen Moroz of Vancouver clocked in at 29:37, while Vancouver’s Jillian Fong was third in 30:26. …more at Vancouver Sun
Eric Gillis and Leslie Sexton win 4th annual Eastside 10K
Eric Gillis, who recently finished tenth at last month’s Olympic marathon, won today’s 4th annual Vancouver Eastside 10K, a Canada Running Series event. His time of 30:16 was enough to hold off BC Endurance project runner, Justin Kent, who put some pressure on Gillis between the 6-8K mark. On the Women’s side, it was first time Eastside 10K runner, Leslie Sexton who managed to beat out Vancouver locals Dayna Pidhoresky and last year’s winner, Olympian Natasha Wodak. …more at canadarunningseries.com
Kip Kangogo runs to victory, marking his fifth win at the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon
Over 6,500 people took part in the 18th annual Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5k on Sunday, June 26. The event raised more than $860,000 and counting for 81 local charities through the Scotiabank Charity Challenge.
